BEDA 28: New phones!

I had a weird dispute with a fan today, and I was going to vent about the whole thing in my blog, but the whole thing was resolved so I just deleted everything I'd typed so far. There was no reason to spread the negativity further than it already was.
Basically it had something to do with people expecting me to divulge more information about my personal life than I am comfortable doing, mixed with battling 1. a fan's desires to know everything about me and 2. my need for respect of privacy. Also I don't like being called a bitch. xD

But it's all fine now. The moral of the story is, don't write emails when you're upset. That's a rule I always try to live by. Also, I want fans to feel like I am approachable and reachable without me having to knock my walls of privacy down. It's a hard balance.

Anyway, that's not the highlight of my day by any means. Today was awesome because (what is this fiveawesomegirls?) Eia and I went on one of our traditional shopping trips where we vow we'll check out a few stores but end up only spending money in Forever21. Usually we go overboard, but this time I made a list of things I needed (bermuda shorts, summer dresses, earrings, new cell phone case) and I'm proud to that aside from this hilarious neon belt that I had to have, I only bought things on that list.

Speaking of cell phone cases, my upgrade was in March so I finally ordered a new phone, and I am ECSTATIC. It shouldn't be that big of a deal, but my HTC Hero was so pathetically buggy that I've been dreaming of a new phone for months. After days of research and indecisiveness I finally decided to go with the Samsung Epic 4G, and after only 24 hours of use I am pretty happy with it. It's fast, smooth, and the interface (though still Android) is way, way more intuitive than my Hero ever was. For example, the touchscreen can tell when your face moves away from the screen at the end of a phone call and brings the call menu screen back up for you. How cool is that??

Anyway, I am really happy with this new phone; I just hope the battery life can make it through a day. That's my biggest pet peeve with smartphones. Also I got a really pretty pink and white splatter paint looking case for it. I'm a sucker for cool cell phone cases.

Now it's only 5pm and I have the rest of the day to do whatever I want with it! Maybe I'll finish cleaning my room. Or watch... something... who knows.

Question for the day: Are you staying up latelatelate to watch the Royal Wedding (I ask because I don't really care per se, but Eia is throwing a party and I'm always down for a party), and what phone do you have? I'm curious. :)

I have the HTC Hero! But I recently upgraded the operating system because it was the first version and now the texting is obnoxiously laggy.

I'm definitely not staying up to watch the royal wedding. While I'm happy for them on a human level (as in the "good for them" kind of sentiment), I don't really care nor do I understand why Americans seem to care more about it than the Brits do. I have finals and crazy stuff going on this weekend so I need my sleep.

I'm getting a new phone soon but I don't know what to get. Probably something Verizon with a data plan.

I always just get whatever phone comes free with my plan. xD I'm sure I'll get a smart phone eventually, but for now I just have the normal (but cute!) kind.

Much to the chagrin of my pop culture-loving mother, I have no interest in seeing the royal wedding. I congratulate the happy couple, but I really don't care. xD I'm sure that it will be EXCITING for those who do watch it though. :)

Also, I think it's really admirable that you share as much of your private life as you do. I mean, it takes a lot of self-confidence to consistently put yourself out there as much as you do. You definitely deserve the boundaries that you DO choose to enact. :)

Oh, and I know that you know this, but you are totally the opposite of a bitch. D:

LOVE YOU.

I am not staying up late to watch the wedding... I'm getting up at 10am to watch it :D but only really so I can say I have... you may have guessed I'm in Britain xD

I have an LG Cookie... its terrible and I want either an iPhone or a BlackBerry :)

Now, I am completely against mean emails and totally for privacy, but this post reminded me of a question I wanted to ask you, if it isn't too personal, since I'm mostly more interested in long-distance relationships in general than you/Luke specifically.
I was just wondering if you two tend to talk or chat or Skype pretty much every day (emailing doesn't count in this case, since it's not a instant-response type thing). Just wondering what is and isn't normal for an online-often couple.

As for me, I shan't be watching the wedding. Yay for them and yay for England, but...I want my sleep. And I have no idea what kind of phone I have. Some sort of Trac Phone thing from Motorola, I think? (I guess I do have an idea- ha). I scarcely ever use it.

I'm not staying up for the wedding because I have school tomorrow and I feela little sick from all the Easter candy I've been eating this week. XD
And I don't have a cell phone. My mom is very against phones, so if I have one I have to pay for it myself. I did just that for a while, but it ended up being a big waste of money. I wouldn't have done it if my brother hadn't given me his old phone for my birthday.
And...I adore shopping for summer dresses. Or, all dresses. I became really girly over the span of 8th grade, to the point where I wear dresses/skirts at least three days a week and lacy tops the other two. XD I wore a new dress today, actually. :3
You totally need to know that?

i am getting up at 4 in the morning to watch it!!!! (on an internet live-stream because we don't have tv!)

I'm not staying up for the wedding. I'm actually thinking about crawling into a hole for another week or 2 just to get some peace and quiet from it.

I have a Samsung Exclaim right now, but when I upgrade in October I'm thinking either the HTC Evo Slide or the Epic :) You should keep little reports on how you continue liking the phone so I'll know :P

I'll probably be awake when all the wedding coverage starts but I won't be watching. I've got books to read! Fun books since I'm already on summer break.

My phone is more than 2 years old at this point, an LG Dare. The battery begins dying if I talk for longer than 5 minutes but I love it too much to get a new one; it has a really good camera too. And it doesn't really matter since I'm home for the summer and my parents were the only ones who ever called me while I was at college.

I wont be watching the wedding because my kids get up way to early. I need to get at least some sleep. I'm sure it will be almost impossible it avoid pictures and video of it.

I have an iPhone. I like it but I get distracted a lot with it. :)

I usd to have the LG Rumour. Which was crap save for the QWERTY keyboard.
Now I have an LG Rumour2. Which is crap WITHOUT VIDEO RECORDING and again, save for the QWERTY keyboard.

I'm going to record the royal wedding so I can pause and rewind and all that good stuff. (:

I have an iphone 4 and it's my very first smartphone! It's really amazing. I love it. But that could be because it's all shiny and new still.

(: And you're not a bitch at all. You're AWESOME.

A friend of mine is recording the wedding and then we're having a wedding party next week, so we can watch it at a more humane time of the day.
I have an LG Keybo, which I've had for over two years. It's not a smart phone or even a fancy phone, but it works for me and I love it.
Love reading your blogs, keep up the great work! :)

Last time I bought a new phone (2008, I think) I went for the Samsung Rugby. I'm rather notorious in my family for going through phones like toilet paper, and this phone has been with me for 2.5 years. That's gotta say something about its durability! I also can't STAND smart phones, and really wanted a flip phone without the annoying querty keys... so the Rugby had all the things I was looking for.

It isn't easy balancing your 'online identity' with your private life. Not that I have fans, because I don't, but I blog. And sometimes I battle with myself over some overshares, trying to rationalize in my head why it's ok to share one thing, but not ok to share another. Then there are the things you just don't think people aught to know about anyone else, and I don't share those. But I think readers and tubers alike think that what they see of a person online is all that there is to them. They only see what you let them see, and so they sometimes don't catch on that there's this whole other part(s) of you that they don't see because you elect not to share. Some people just don't think, sometimes.

I just got a Blackberry Bold 9650 and the battery life is a dream. I can check email, twitter, facebook, tumblr, etc periodically throughout the day and it lasts about two days on one charge. And charges incredibly fast.
I had a Samsung prior (not the same one) and the battery life was terrible, so good luck with yours! Hopefully you don't have the same problem.

Being from NZ, and it being my crown prince and all ( ;) ) then yep! Staying up for the wedding, and also having a royal wedding tea party (cocktails out of tea cups!)

As for my cell phone, its a crap lil Nokia thing... really want an iPhone

I went shopping today too! I had made a list of clothes I needed and didn't even finish getting everything on the list. At least your trip seemed productive!

I guess I'm one of the few people who will be watching the wedding. I'm actually a little excited about it. I still hang on to my childhood dream of becoming a princess someday...Just kidding! But I think it's a little exciting anyway.

I have the Pantech Impact in blue. It's not that great, but my upgrade isn't until December, but I'll be in college and according to my mother, I get cut off from the family plan as soon as I graduate in June so I can "learn to be an adult". Except I'll be a freshman. I hope she was kidding.

I have a Gravity 3 from T-Mobile and while it has all the potential to be a smart phone, I can really only afford the minutes and unlimited texts. But it works, so I'm happy.

I'm not staying up to watch the royal wedding...unless I'm up that late anyways studying for my online HR final this weekend. Until Monday, I had no idea what the Royal Wedding was...

I have a HTC HD2 and is very happy with it.

As for the wedding - yes, i'm gonna watch it. I live in Denmark, and they start broadcasting from 6:30am (in aprox. 2 hours...!) on national TV.

I have a Sony Ericson Xperia Mini, and whilst it's well designed and the keyboard is amazing, the Android interface is really buggy. I'm jealous that yours can sense it when you're ending a call, mine goes black after about a minute into the call and when I pull it away it remains black and I have to spend ages trying to get the screen to come back on (it stop responding to taps) so that I can hang up. It's doubly annoying if I get someone's voice-mail but can't hang up before the beep, so I leave an accidental message of white noise on their phone.

I have an LG cosmos touch. My mom doesn't want to pay the data package for a smart phone. :/ If, no, when, I publish a novel, and it's successful, I'll get my own dang cell phone that does cool stuff.

I have a Samsung Rogue but it's already out of date and I'm actually thinking about getting an iphone when my plan expires this June... We'll see. And although I am thoroughly annoyed with the Royal Wedding coverage that has been nonstop lately, I will probably watch it because hey it's a part of history we can look back on and say I remember that!

kyle said...

I have to get up early so I can get off work early, so I can go see the space shuttle launch. Also I don't care about the royal wedding. The only reason I'd stay up for it is for Maureen Johnson's commentary, but that's outweighed by the need to actually be mildly awake the rest of the day.

Battery life is always a problem. I've shamelessly doubled the thickness of my phone (t-mobile g1) with an extended battery. Sure now it's 1990 big and 1980 ugly and people give me a pity look. But what is the point of having a smart phone and a data plan if you're always afraid to use it less you can't make it to the end of the day?

My wife has the t-mobile Vibrant, the keyboard-less cousin of your phone, and the battery life is surprisingly good, though I have gotten her conditioned to connect it to a PC to charge whenever she's not mobile. And the screen colors are fantastic for viewing photos and video. There are so many things to tweak and hack to improve performance, though I'm not sure if you're into that. Luke can help. Enjoy your new phone!

I'm not interested in watching the royal wedding at all.

As for phones, I've had the original Motorola Droid for a little over a year now and I love it. It's a little laggy sometimes but I think that's from some of the apps I have running. When I upgrade I'll probably stick with the android system, maybe switch to the Thunderbolt....I'm not really sure.

Eva said...

I'm not staying up to watch the royal wedding, it airs at 11:00 AM over here (The Netherlands) and at that time I'm way too busy with making one big mess at our school. We have our last schoolday today, before finals start.

When it comes to phones: I have the LG KS360, and I don't like it. It does have a long batterylife so that's okay. But at the end of the day, I really don't care about spending money on a new one as long as this one's still working.

Unknown said...

I have the Motorola Blur. It has an older Android OS on it, but it isn't a bad phone. Sometimes the screen does weird stuff, but as long as it texts and tweets, I'm good.

I think it's so awkward that it's a televised event. It's such a personal day, and to have it broadcasted all over the world would be so overwhelming. Also, it's two people I don't know.

iPhone 3gs. I love it.

And I may watch it in the morning as I cram for my midterm

I can understand the curiosity about your personal life especially since we all know that you and Luke started going out, so naturally we are curious to know how it's going (myself uncluded :p) because we care about your happiness, but that being said I totally understand you wanting to keep the details private. I would never think you're a bitch for wanting that.
As for my phone I have an iPhone 3G and I just upgraded to the iPhone 4! I'm activating it tomorrow and I'm really excited about it's photo and video capability, just out of curiosity how come you haven't purchased an iPhone?
I'm sad that BEDA will be ending soon I'm going to miss your daily blogs :(

Blackberry curve, which I like, though I don't realllly understand how it works as well as I should after 5 months of owning it.
And though I'm not staying up for the wedding, one of my coworkers today was telling me all about her plans to drink champagne and watch it.

Of course you don't have to share every detail of your personal life! Nobody does! (Even movie stars shouldn't have their privacy invaded like they do.) I've enjoyed watching your videos since 5AG, and I still do, and I enjoy reading your blog, whatever you decide to talk about. I don't need to know ALL about you; I'm not your best friend, just a reader/viewer. I'm glad you stood up for yourself! :)

As for phones, I've got an LG Rumour at the moment. Can't stand it; after two years, it's gotten quite buggy. Looking forward to getting a new one either this summer or fall.

And I got my mum to record the wedding for me. Thought it might be interesting to see. If you're going to Eia's party, have fun!

I woke up at 5:30 this morning to go to the bathroom, and decided to see what was happening with the wedding. Choir boys were singing, so I went back to sleep. xD

I have a MyTouch 3g. My only complaints are 1. you can't see what pictures you've taken unless the wi-fi is on, and 2. I have to charge the battery twice a day.

I'm due for an upgrade, too. I was thinking the LG Sentio, since I don't care so much about having the internet, but I love touch screen keyboards and threaded texting. :)

Didn't stay up to watch the wedding. I don't really get what all the hype is about. I'm sure it was a beautiful ceremony and all, but personally I'd much rather sleep cause I don't get enough as it is. Haha.

As for phones I have a Blackberry Curve 8530. I like it the apps are great and I absolutely love being able to have all my e-mails sent to it and not having to go to some app to access them they're just right on the home screen with my texts and contacts folder and such. The only thing I don't really like is the web browser, but I don't use my phone for the internet much anyway so it's not that big a deal. Hope your new phone turns out great :)

I've got the iPhone 4 and it also does that thing when you move it away from your ear in a call :)

I'm Welsh, so of course I watched the Royal Wedding, considering he is Prince William of Wales <3 :)I've been extremely proud to be British today, such a happy occasion.

I have the Nokia e71. It is the first smart phone that I have ever owned. I am really happy with it so far. It's not so laggy and the internet is much faster than what I was use to. The only downside is that it is with a prepaid company, so the internet isn't the fastest it could be, but it works for me.

I watched the wedding from a big screen they put up in one of the squares in London! It was very, very insane and ridiculous but so much fun.

I have the Sprint Reclaim, which is biodegradable and made out of corn. Hahahah. But right now since I'm studying abroad I just have a pay-as-you-go phone.

I was planning not to stay up for the royal wedding because I don't really CARE. But my mother woke me up all extatic about it -.- so yea. Today I had basiclly NO sleep. Awesome. Minus the awesome. I have a Blackberry curver I think? Some kind of blackberry, I honestly dont know the diffrence. But it has horrible battery life and it can't get through the day. So I charge it at school (:

I have the iPhone 4. Best thing ever. Between this and my iPad, I am set. I can do anything on either one. I have a slight app addictions.

I did not stay up late, or get up early (wedding coverage started at 3 here), but I did wear my Tiara to my one job today (elementary school). Our principal declared it Tiaras and Top hats day, since she said "Canada is still part of the british empire, so hes our prince too" And since most of the female staff is made up of Italian Catholics, We all had our fair share of tiaras to choose from. I personally wore my first communion tiara

I read all of this blog's first paragraph thinking you were talking about an air fan- you know the ones that spin around in rooms? Not sure if you call them that in America, but I thought you had some issues with one like maybe getting your hair caught in it. But then point 1) about it wanting to know everything about you kind of threw me off.

I have a Samsung Intercept. I used to have a Samsung Moment. Well, technically I've had 2 Samsung Moments. The first one broke. It wouldn't charge anymore. So they replaced it. The replacement one worked much better.

For a while.
That one broke too, eventually. Kept freezing, then attempting to restart itself, but failing miserably. At that point, the Samsung Moment had been discontinued. (THANK GOODNESS) It's official replacement was the Intercept which is WAAAAAAAAY better.

Meanwhile, my sister has had a Samsung Moment since I got my first one, and hasn't had any real problems with it. O.o
