There are some things that change the actual voltage and not just the prongs on the outlet. I can't remember what they are called but they are expensive and if it's just used for one hairdryer it would be cheaper to just buy a new one while you're there... or borrow.
But many appliances show ON them if they would be usable with JUST the prong converter. They say Input: "100-240V" because then you know it could handle the higher voltage.
But I may be wrong. I haven't been to England yet but have been planning on it and did a ton of research on that since I need my hair straightener and stuff! But latest news is that I won't even get to go (most likely) until after my fiance and I get married in 2010. But then it might not even be until 2011 that we go! Ahh. Crazy.

Oh man, the things you need to keep in mind just to go to another country. My friend fried her hair straightner in London.
