Buffy the Vampire Slayer survey!

As promised, here is my Buffy the Vampire Slayer Survey! I've had this for ages but I had to both A) finish watching the series and B) let the ending sink in a little before I felt qualified to answer the questions. I'd love to see your answers in the comments, if you feel so inclined.

Also, this contains spoilers from Seasons 1-7, so if you haven't finished watching it you should probably proceed with caution.

1. The first character I fell in love with: Call me a stereotypical girl but I felt this immediate connection with Buffy herself almost from the very first episode. I love that she's a leader, that she's witty, but also not afraid to just be a girl sometimes (even in the face of danger/to the chagrin of her watcher). On that note, I've always adored Giles as well, mostly for the rapport he has with Buffy.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: This is a toss up between Anya and Andrew.

First of all, when Anya came to the show, her outbursts and demonisms were kind of annoying, but as time went on it became fascinating watching her learn to be human and really begin to see the good in people. Plus she always says hilarious things to lift the mood during tough episodes.

Andrew, on the other hand, began as a character I really thought wouldn't be around long. His mannerisms and awkwardness always made me laugh harder than my roommate thought was necessary, but as we rolled into Season 7 I was just amazed by what a terrific character he became. I've always been a fan of "villain redemption" in shows, but Andrew's transformation from "awkward nerdy psuedo-bad guy" to "awkward nerdy psuedo-scaredy-cat 'hero'" with a desire to do something noble was one of the best I've ever seen.

Plus, "That'll do pig!!!!!" is still something my roommate and I quote on almost a daily basis.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: It's hard to say because I loved everyone on this show (excluding Riley but that's too boring an answer to even use) but there were periods where I found myself really disliking certain characters. I really disliked Willow in her descent to bad-witch, especially around the time when she was fighting with Giles about methods of using magic to solve problems. I was never the hugest fan of Angel, either, even when he and Buffy were happy together. I just found him to be kind of bland, and not at all the "dark and brooding mysterious guy in the shadows" he was meant to be.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Maybe this is just because I really like Michelle Trachtenberg, but I never hated Dawn with the fires of burning infernos like everyone else seems to online. I totally understood her temper tantrums in the season when she realized her whole existence was a lie, and after that? I thought it was kind of nice for Buffy to just have a little sister. Also, I really loved the bonding between Xander and Dawn, because it bothered me a little bit that everyone seemed to be a redeemed vampire or a powerful witch or an ex demon or a potential. It was nice to have someone else around for Xander to… I dunno. Be understood by.

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: I thought Amy was really interesting in the beginning, and when she spent all that time in rat form I always thought in the back of my mind "I sure hope they bring her back sometime". But I really, really hated her character every moment she was back. So, she should have stayed a rat.

6. The character I would shag anytime: Gah. I know this survey is begging me to be original and not just say Spike, but come on. The answer is Spike.

7. The character I’d want to be like: Hmmm. Maybe Faith. All the perks of being a Slayer without the responsibility of being THE Slayer. That's the laziest answer I could have given, probably Haha.

8. The character I’d slap: Andrew, when he kills Jonathan. Or Harmony, all the time.

9. A pairing that I love: This isn't a romantic pairing, but I loved when Spike lived with Giles. They were so funny together, and it was really then that I started falling in love with Spike as a character. As far as actual love goes, the Buffy/Spike storyline was the most compelling and heartwrenchingly "will-they-wont-they", but I think Anya and Xander (pre-leaving her at the alter) had one of the healthiest relationships.

10. A pairing that I despise: I hated pretty much any time Druscilla was onscreen (she was just so annoying and terrible for Spike) and I cannot begin to explain how glad I was when he cast her off.

11. Favorite male character (add a quote or favorite line): Spike.

Quote from him: "Think I still dream of a crypt for two with a white picket fence? My eyes are clear."

Quote about him: "I'm looking for this guy. Bleach-blond hair, leather jacket, British accent, kind of... sallow? But in a hot way?"

12. Favorite female character (add a quote or favourite line): Buffy.

Quote from her: "I'm going to give you all a nice, fun, normal evening, if I have to kill every single person on the face of the earth to do it."

Quote about her: "Got to hand it to you, Goldilocks. You do have bleeding tragic taste in men. I got a cousin married to a regurgitating Froglocsteem that's got better instincts than you."

13. My five favorite characters: Buffy, Spike, Andrew, Anya and the Mayor (Season 3).

14. My five least favorite characters: Warren, Riley, Amy, Druscilla, Angel.

15. Which character I am most like: Would it be completely arrogant to say Buffy? I don't think I'm a superhero by any definition of the word but I definitely see myself in her leadership qualities and loyalty to her friends. And in her need to talk her enemies to death before actually killing them.

16. My deep, dark fandom secret: I'm not sure what's really worse than the fact that I waited until I was 22 to begin watching the series. That and actually liking Dawn.

Oh, wow, finally I've been in a fandom before you, Kristina!
As for the survey:
1. The first character I fell in love with: Xander. And he's probably the only character I've never fallen out of love with, throughout the entire series. Yes, even when he left Anya at the altar, even though I wanted to kick him. Repeatedly
2. Either Anya or Spike.
3. Tara. I liked her, but she was never interesting enough to miss when she died. Plus, the Evil Willow twist was worth it.
4. I don't really know who everyone else hates. But, yeah, probably Dawn. I watched it when I was right in the middle of raging puberty, so I could relate to her whiny, annoying mood swings. She got me, man:)
5. Angel. Again, watched it at the age when I still found his tipe "so awesome and mysterious". Now he just reminds me of Edward Cullen. Bleh.
6. How is this even a question? Spike! ANYTIME.
7. Giles (but in female form and a bit less dorky). One day, I mean, not exactly now.
8.Willow. And Xander (when he left Anya), or Spike at times. I think I've wanted to slap most of them at some point of the story.
9. Yes, Xander/Anya. And Buffy/Spike, of course. I wonder if that one was planned from the beginning.
10. Um, comepletely unoriginal, but Spike/Dru and Buffy/Riley.
11. Spike, yes. Also, one of the most memorable ones for me was the dancing demon. But iI can't remember quotes, it was so long ago.
12. Buffy.
13. Buffy, Spike, Xander,Anya and the dancing demon (I'm pretty sure he had a name)
14. Riley, Dru, Tara, Warren and Harmony. Oh, and Cordelia.
15. I don't really have one. Once I missed school to watch four episodes. But it's not really a secret, I payed a steep price for thst one. I felt signifigantly less cool than Ferris Bueler.

I think you should really watch the tv show Angel. It's not as good as Buffy, but you get to love characters from the Buffy series that you never expected to love (Harmony or Cordelia, for example.)

Plus, you get to have the Buffy-verse for a little bit monger. :)

I'M SO EXCITED TO FILL THIS OUT!

1. The first character I fell in love with: From the second I saw Willow I fell in love. She's brilliant and not afraid to be nerdy yet after she does anything she looks for reassurance that it's okay. She's just an amazing person.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: I have to say either Spike or Andrew. I never expected Spike to have the kind of role he did. I remember my sister telling me he was my dad's favorite and I sat there, watching the season 2 thinking why that was. But by season 4 he was so funny and just awesome! Andrew because he's so funny and never really has a place anywhere yet he just ends up fitting in some weird way.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Angel. I really just dislike him. After watching Angel, I'm more of a fan than I was but I hated him in Buffy so that isn't saying much.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: I don't feel like people hate her by any means, but I love Tara a lot more than most people I think. She is easily one of my favorite fictional characters ever. She's so amazing and tragic and I just love her so freaking much.

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: I never loved him, but I didn't have nearly as many problems with Riley as I do now. He was refreshing at first and he seemed like he was growing as a person because of Buffy which was nice. However, from rewatching the series more and more, he just seems a lot flatter than he appeared at the beginning. He irks me a lot now.

6. The character I would shag anytime: Willow. Anytime, anywhere. Well, maybe not when she's evil or I'm mad at her for hurting Tara. But anytime before or after that.

7. The character I’d want to be like: I wish I could be more like Anya and just feeling free to say whatever I think or feel and be confident enough in myself to feel like I have the right to say these things, if that makes sense.

8. The character I’d slap: Xander when he tells Buffy that Willow told her to kick Angel's ass. Or Angel at pretty much any point when he isn't Angelus who I like much more.

9. A pairing that I love: Willow/Tara is my OTP. Xander/Anya are awesome as well.

10. A pairing that I despise: Buffy/Angel and Willow/Kennedy

11. Favorite male character (add a quote or favorite line): Spike

First quote I think of: "Out. For. A. Walk... Bitch"

12. Favorite female character (add a quote or favourite line): Willow.

First quote I think of: "It's just that in High School, knowledge was pretty much frowned upon, you really had to work to learn anything. But here... the energy, the collective intelligence, it's like this force. This penetrating force.. and I can just feel my mind opening up, you know, and letting this place just thrust into and spurt knowledge into... [considers what she's saying] That sentence ended up in a different place than it started out in."

13. My five favorite characters: Willow, Tara, Anya, Spike, Andrew. I think, I love Oz too. And Giles. And everyone else.

14. My five least favorite characters: Angel, Warren, The Master, Kennedy, Riley.

15. Which character I am most like: Tara. It's tough between her and Willow but I think I lean more to being like Tara. I'm pretty reserved but insanely loyal and always wanting the best for others. Also willing to do things that hurt us in order to help others like what she did with Willow.

16. My deep, dark fandom secret: I didn't start watching the series until late 2009. However, I finished it all in less than 2 weeks and have seen seen the series several times and done much research about it, plus I corun a rewatch blog now so I think I'm making up for lost time.

1. The first character I fell in love with:
Hmm This is a toss up between Willow and Buffy. I mean I loved buffy, but the more Willows charater developed I loved it.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
My would have to be either Anya or Spike. I tried not to love spike but by the seventh season I was a gonner.

Anya was just very funny to me but I thought she was kind of a pointless charater. I began to love her journey of trying to understand and fit in with humans.

And Spike.. ahh Spike. I first I liked him because he was funny. Then I hated him. Because of the way he began to treat Buffy. But when I understood what an amazing character he is, the way he fought agaisnt what was "natural" to the demon in him, because his love was so strong :') It was just so beautiful :P

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t:
Hmm. I don't think there is anyone.. I mean I kind of began to like Dawn.. she grew on me. Faith also always irratated me too.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates:
Eh i don't think any of the charaters. Who do people hate?

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer:
I don't think my opinions really changed. If I have to pick one then I'd go with Oz, I loved Oz but when he got crazy jealous it was scary.. It's kind of understandable though.. but it was really hard to see someone so sweet and goofy be so cold and angry.

6. The character I would shag anytime: Hmmm.. Who wouldn't go with Spike-really? And let me throw Tara in there too because I absolutely love her.

7. The character I’d want to be like: I'd like to be Buffy. I'd actually love to be Buffy. I wish I was as strong as her. Physically, I'd LOVE to be able to kick butt, emotionally.. I guess she's not all that strong sometimes..

8. The character I’d slap:
Spike when he's being a butt-hole, Faith, and stupid evil Glory!

9. A pairing that I love:
Willow and Tara because I LOVE Tara. They were so sweet and happy :(

10. A pairing that I despise:
Buffy and Riley. BAH. I couldn't stand Riley.

11. Favorite male character (add a quote or favorite line): Spike.

I don't know they exact words but when he's making fun of Angel. That is one of my favorite moments.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ8m7iTsIyY

"Not i'm just a BIGG fluffy puppy"

12. Favorite female character (add a quote or favourite line): ehhh. I can't choose.

13. My five favorite characters: Spike, Buffy, Tara, Willow, Giles.

14. My five least favorite characters: Glory, Riley, Warren, Faith, the Mayor

15. Which character I am most like: I really don't have a clue. At my best I think I'm like Willow, silly, nerdy, child-like.

16. My deep, dark fandom secret:
I really still like Angel !

I just finished season 6 and I´m giving myself some time before jumping into season 7, so I had to skim some of the questions so that I wouldn´t spoil things for myself, but I just wanted to quickly reply to your response about Dawn. She annoyed me from the beginning, but I understood why she would feel the way she felt when finding out she was the Key. However, throughout season 6 she just annoyed me. She is whiny and has to make everything about her and how people didn´t tell her things and she was alone,e tc. And I get that when you´re a teenager those emotions can be present, but maybe it´s because I can relate to HER when I was a teenager, but sometimes I wanted to shake her and make her understand that the people she loves (and that love her back) aren't against her and that (except when she was away, boinking Spike), Buffy was trying her best to keep the family afloat, to keep the government from taking her. So to make a long story short, I really dislike Dawn, but I get why she acted the way she did (Sometimes!).
And yes, Angel was cute but so BLAH.

I can't believe you hate Druscilla!

I'm not in love with Angel either. He's way more interesting when he's evil. I do like his and Spike's interactions though.

Willow/Oz will always be my favorite.

Elisabeth said...

1. I'm definitely a Willow person. I love Willow, and I identify with her much more than with Buffy. I'm not as outgoing or brave as Buffy and I'm not a leader. I wish she'd never turned lesbian, though. Oz was the best.

2. Tara. I was so prejudiced against her because she was replacing Oz, and you can't do that! But she was pretty cool in the end.

3. Faith. Sorry, Kristina!

4. I actually can't think of any. Maybe Riley? Ok, I don't love him. But I don't hate him like a lot of people seem to.

5. I'm stuck. Can't think of one.

6. Spike, of course. What other answer is there?

7. Willow.

8. Cordelia. Don't like her. At all.

9. Willow/Oz. Also Xander/Anya, before the wedding...

10. Harmony/Spike. I mean, WTF? And Drusilla/Spike. Actually, Spike and anyone that's not Buffy.

11. Spike.

12. Willow. (Why do I feel like I'm just continuously repeating myself here?)

13. Willow, Spike, Anya, Oz, Giles.

14. Faith, Gloria, Cordelia, Jenny Calendar, Dawn.

15. Willow. I'm the nerdy girl who does everyone else's hard work. With the same inner conflict between wanting to conform, and wanting to rebel...

16. I have't watched Season 7 (although I know what happens)...

p.s. There's some pretty good buffy/spike fanfiction out there... ;)

I really want to do the whole survey, but I wanted to clarify/give a little insight into why everyone hates/hated Dawn. I think this is something that is lost on people that didn't watch the show when it was aired (not that there is anything wrong with it, I’m sooooo happy that Buffy continues to find new fans and inspire countless generations). The hatred stemmed from the beginning of Season 5 when they introduced Dawn- seemingly out of nowhere! Yes, her storyline developed and you eventually figured out everything, but I think it was really frustrating/annoying to a lot of hardcore Buffy fans that this whiny, little sister character was introduced. Yes, in retrospect it provided a perfect contrast to Buffy and her overarching search to discover who she is both as the slayer and as herself, but Dawn was like the Jar Jar Binks of Buffy for a while (annoying tagalong that said stupid stuff that you wished would just get zapped). I don't think she really lost that rap until after Glory was gone and Dawn was allowed to become her own person. Personally there were times when I wanted Glory to take Dawn and leave; I totally wanted to trade Joyce for Dawn! Now that the series has seen its course, I like Dawn and I love going back and watching her episodes, but I'll never forget the first time Season 5 episode 1 aired and Dawn came out of nowhere and I said "OHHHHH hell no! Harriet the Spy is NOT, I repeat NOT going to ruin this show!" And luckily, my rant came true and she didn’t :)

1. The first character I fell in love with: Buffy. Straight away, from the very first time I saw her on the screen, I knew that she was going to be a favourite character of mine. But that's cliché, so I'll say Willow as a second reserve.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Anya. When she first came in seasons 3, I kind of hated her for what she did to Xander/Cordelia, but after I saw her develop into a beautiful and wonderful and funny character, I grew a fondness I never knew I would have. And when she died, I shed the most amount of tears for her.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Riley. I. Hate. Riley. He's boring, and he slowed down seasons 4 A LOT. I was so glad when he left, but when he came back in seasons 6, it was good to see him again. It was kind of like seeing a frenemy; I didn't want to see him, but I wanted to see him more.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Dawn. I have to admit, I absolutely hated everything about her in her first episode. Like, seriously, absolutely hated her. Just the way she was shoved in the house, like nothing happened (yeah, I know, that's what's *supposed* to happen) I just wanted to punch her. But after two more episodes, she was my favourite. I can't imagine Buffy without a sister, and when I rewatch, it's just weird when she isn't in it.

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Amy, I suppose? I liked her when we first saw her, when she was sweet and innocent, but then when she turned into a bitch and cursed Willow, I wanted to throw things at her.

6. The character I would shag anytime: Just to get one thing straight, NOT SPIKE. He's funny, and a decent person at the end, but come on! Ew, he's disgusting. That's probably down to the fact that I hate English people ('s'all good, I can say that, for I myself am English. I just find us irritating) But he's just weird. Also, I know James Marsters isn't English, but SPIKE is, so that's all that matters. Um, I guess I'd probably Angel, just because he's hot. Not because he's deep, or a nice person, because he's annoying and I didn't see why he needed to show up in the last Seasons, but I purely because he's hot. Yeah, I know, profound of me, huh?

7. The character I’d want to be like: Obviously, Buffy. I actually find little bits of her creeping in my daily life, because she's a role model. She's not afraid to be scared, but it's not being fearless that makes her a hero; it's doing things in spite of that fear. But I don't think I'm as brave as her, so probably Willow.

8. The character I’d slap: Riley. And again, and again. And then again.

Ben Cracknell said...

9. A pairing that I love: Anya and Xander, POST the 'wedding'. Not when Anya goes back to her demon days, but after. When she's human again, towards the end episode. The way they're still in love, but they can't do anything about it. I love the way Xander was very... Brave, when Andrew told him she was dead. He didn't cry, or break down. He was proud, and fond, and that was phenomenal to me.

10. A pairing that I despise: Spike/Drusilla. Drusilla was stupid and Spike was annoying.

11. Favorite male character (add a quote or favorite line): Andrew

"We don't know much about them except for they're very ugly, and they're very mobile for blind people"

12. Favorite female character (add a quote or favourite line): Buffy

(This is actually my favourite quote of ALL TIME.)

"I'm beyond tired. I'm beyond scared. I'm standing on the mouth of hell, and it's going to swallow me whole. And it'll choke on me. We're not ready? They're not ready. They think we're gonna wait for the end to come, like we always do. I'm done waiting. They want an apocalypse? Oh, we'll give 'em one. Anyone else who wants to run... do it now. Because we just became an army. We just declared war. From now on we won't just face our worst fears, we will seek them out. We will find them and cut out their hearts one by one until the First shows itself for what it really is. And I'll kill it myself. There's only one thing on this earth more powerful than evil. And that's us. Any questions?"

13. My five favorite characters: Buffy, Willow, Tara, Anya, Xander

14. My five least favorite characters: Riley, Angel, Glory, Amy, Harmony.

15. Which character I am most like: In all fairness, probably Buffy. That sounds so conceited, but she's affected me so much that I don't think I couldn't NOT be like her. Also, I have a wooden stake I made in wood shop. Jus' sayin'.

16. My deep, dark fandom secret: I think Andrew is one of the best characters. He is so hilarious and valuable, but it annoys me when the Scooby Gang don't treat him well. I also think he's hot, so whatever. Again with the profound stuff. Ha!

I am coming out of lurkdom because you are talking about Buffy :) I find it strange to answer some of these questions though because I started watching Buffy on tv in Season 5. I then bought season 4 on video but didn't watch 1-3 properly until a while later.
1. The first character I fell in love with: I'm going to go with Willow. She was the reason I started watching the show as I was questioning my sexuality. I think I started watching a lot of shows because of gay characters back then. Buffy was one that stuck though as I fell in love with the whole show.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Cordelia or Faith. Cordelia especially now I've started watching Angel as she is a much more developed character
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Angel although he is better in Angel the series. Also I've never had as much love for Xander as I feel I should have. He had definetly had his epic moments but sometimes he really annoys me.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: I'll jump on the bandwagan with liking Dawn. I actually really related to her as I was a teenager with a big sister that was a lot cooler than I was. I also really liked Kennedy. I didn't think she was a great match for Willow but I really liked her as a character herself.
5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: I found this one really hard. I suppose I loved Xander less as the series went on but he still had some great moments.
6. The character I would shag anytime: Faith. Definetly Faith.

7. The character I’d want to be like: Tara in season 5 or 6 when she is much more confident in herself. I love her kindness and that she is so comfortable with her sexuality. I also think that I need Anyas ability to just say what she thinks sometimes.
8. The character I’d slap: Willow when everytime she uses magic and it hurts Tara. Xander when he leaves Anya at the alter. Riley all the time.
9. A pairing that I love: Always Willow/Tara. I think they were my first real ship.
10. A pairing that I despise: Buffy with almost all her boyfriends. I think that the only one I like was Spike and that really didn't start in the healthiest way. I probably hate Buffy/Riley the most.
11. Favorite male character (add a quote or favorite line): Clem

Quote from him: "You can’t swing a cat without hitting some kind of demonic activity. Not that I swing cats, or eat—nope. Heh. Cuttin’ way back. Cholesterol—morals. I mean, morals."

Quote about him: "He has a skin condition. He doesn't like to talk about it"
12. Favorite female character (add a quote or favourite line): Tara

Quote from her: "I am you know. Yours"

Quote about her: "I'm gonna take care of her. Even if she never... she's my girl"
also "I found you, I will always find you"
13. My five favorite characters: Tara, Faith, Willow, Giles,Andrew or Clem (I can't pick)
14. My five least favorite characters: Warren, Riley, Angel,Ben, Principle Wood
15. Which character I am most like: Mixture of Willow/Dawn. When I first started watching I was at lot like Dawn but I would like to think I'm Season 5 Willow now, still v geeky but embracing it.
16. My deep, dark fandom secret: I guess I gave it up in the beginning that I only started watching for the gay characters and that it took me an embarrisingly long time to watch the first 3 seasons. Also I have to admit at times in season 7 Buffy really annoyed me.

Kylie said...

1. The first character I fell in love with: Willow. I just loved everything about her - her mannerisms, the way she speaks, and her general outlook on life. One of my favorite characters, even to this day!

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Probably Tara. When we were first introduced to her, I was a bit annoyed with her (I don't really know why), but after she began to develop as a character, she became one of my favorites. And then ...

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: I honestly really like 99.9 percent of the characters, because I think they all work. Everyone hates Riley and thinks that he's boring, but he was what Buffy needed to juxtapose having such a complex and intricate relationship with Angel. I was never really involved with hearing who people like, but I guess I can see why some people might not love Oz. But I love Oz.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: I'm so happy to read that not everyone hates Dawn! Maybe it's because I'm close to her age, but I don't think she's obnoxious. I was a little annoyed with her initially, when Buffy had to take her places, but I just didn't like the way Buffy treated her. REALLY a 15 year old can't stay home alone? It was kind of insulting. But yeah, I like her :).

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: I guess I can agree with Amy, because I can't think of anything further. She was nice at the beginning, but after they brought her back and she drove Willow deeper in to her magic-craziness I just thought she was a super-bitch. I also briefly loved Angel. But that is way out the window.

6. The character I would shag anytime: Is that really a question? SPIKE.

7. The character I’d want to be like: I'd really like to be a mix of post-high school Willow and Buffy. The strength mixed with confidence and hotness!

8. The character I’d slap: Buffy when she goes through the "I can't let you guys help me" phases, and Willow when she goes magic crazy.
ALSO Spike when he lets the kittens go free at poker and the demons are going to eat them. LOL.

9. A pairing that I love: Sort of similar, but I love the rapport between Spike and Xander.
And Xander/Cordeila. I hated it at first, but when she saw Xander with Willow I didn't want them to be over.

10. A pairing that I despise: Riley anything. Especially with his fiance/wife (I can't remember which). He just fails in the romance department.

11. Favorite male character (add a quote or favorite line): Clem. LOL. And Spike :).

Spike: Why don't you rip her lungs out? That might make an impression.
Angelus: Lacks... poetry.
Spike: Doesn't have to. What rhymes with lungs?
-
Clem: You can't swing a cat without hitting some kind of demonic activity. Not that I swing cats. Or eat-- nope. Cutting way back. Cholesterol-- morals. I mean morals.

12. Favorite female character (add a quote or favourite line): Proooobably Anya! Or Willow.

Anya: I know what broke up him and Cordelia, you know. It was you, and your lips.
Willow: No, it was not! Well, yes, it was so, but, uh, that was a long time ago. Do you think I'd do that again?
Anya: Why not?
Willow: Well, hello? Gay now.

Buffy: Everybody started singing and dancing?
Dawn: [pauses, deflating] I gave birth to a pterodactyl.
Anya: Oh my God, did it sing?

13. My five favorite characters: Spike, Clem, Oz, Anya, Willow, Tara

14. My five least favorite characters: Warren, Riley, Amy, Druscilla, Angel. (I completely agree).

15. Which character I am most like: A nice mixture of Anya, Buffy, Faith, and Willow. Hah. Anya's empty-headedness, Buffy's strength, a tad of Faith's attitude, and Willow's confidence that she grows into.

16. My deep, dark fandom secret: I guess the reason I watched the show is because of someone I don't particularly like anymore? I don't know!
Maybe that I initially liked Angel?

This was fun :)

Yay, I'm really excited to do this survey. I watched BTVS the first time around, way back when. I also rewatched it around the same time you starting watching it.

1. The first character I fell in love with: In the first episode I would say the first character I was drawn to was probably Buffy. Over time she really became a great woman/hero figure for me.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Anya. Favorite quote: "But I don't understand! I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she's, there's just a body, and I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead anymore! It's stupid! It's mortal and stupid! And, and Xander's crying and not talking, and, and I was having fruit punch, and I thought, well Joyce will never have any more fruit punch, ever, and she'll never have eggs, or yawn or brush her hair, not ever, and no one will explain to me why."

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Faith. I guess people like her because she adds something spicy to the mix, but I just never liked her. I'm a Buffygirl. Also, I feel like she came back at the end to be a "good guy"... but I don't really remember when she redeemed herself...? I guess going to jail proved she was good?

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: When I first watched the show in my preteen years I absolutely hated Riley because I was deeply in love with Angel/Buffy. Rewatching the show, I realized Riley really was a great guy... just not "the one" for Buffy.

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: I loved Willow as a computer nerd. I loved her when she was completely in love with Xander. I loved her as a wiccan. I loved her dating Tara. That said, I didn't love her so much in the end.

6. The character I would shag anytime: Angel or Angelus.

7. The character I’d want to be like: First character that came to mind was Johnathan. He was a good background character for soooo many years. But, thinking about it deeper, I think I would want to be Anya. She said anything she wanted to, which is something I fantasize about often.

8. The character I’d slap: Kennedy. I just don't like her. I feel like she preyed on Willow. Also, I really hated when she thought Willow losing control in magic would be "cool".

9. A pairing that I love: Buffy/Angel. Even though I love Spike's developement as a man, the fun he and Buffy had, and his complete and unabashed love for Buffy, nothing will ever come in between Buffy and Angel. They can't even be in the same vicinity without kissing eachother or needing to touch eachother. What Buffy said about being cookie dough and not ready to be with him until she is fully baked is such a good concept that girls should learn and understand.

10. A pairing that I despise: Willow/Kennedy.

11. Favorite male character (add a quote or favorite line): Spike and pretty much all of his dialogue in "Fool For Love"

12. Favorite female character (add a quote or favourite line): Buffy- "From now on, every girl in the world who might be a slayer, will be a slayer." And the rest of her speech in the last episode.

13. My five favorite characters: Buffy, Angel, Spike, Anya, Joyce

14. My five least favorite characters: Warren, Kennedy, Professor Walsh, Dawn(all she does is whine!), Glory (she was the cause of Buffy's second death!)

15. Which character I am most like: Willow, as I am a very good student.

16. My deep, dark fandom secret: Some of my favorite fanfic is Buffy/Angel/Spike or Buffy/Angelus/Spike or Angel(us)/Spike. I think if there was some way Joss Whedon could have made them a threesome relationship... well that would just be BOSS.

Hey Kristina!
I'm a recent wrock fan and I've been finding out about all of you wrockers and ended up finding your blog. And then I see this post!! I'm a huge Buffy fan. I've been in the Buffy fandom for 10 years now so I love to see new people discovering the show!

As I said, I'm new to wrock, but I've been really enjoying it. Can't believe it took me this long to get more into the HP fandom! But just like you just got into Buffy, I guess it's never late to get into any fandom, right?

And if you like Buffy, you should check out the other Whedon shows... Angel, Dollhouse, and Firefly! Especially Firefly! Oh and Dr. Horrible Sing Along Blog too! I think you'd love Dr. Horrible. It's just 45 minutes, I think it's on iTunes.

Anyway, I don't have much to say... I've been listening to ALL CAPS. Awesome stuff!

1. The first character I fell in love with: Angel. I know a lot of people don't really like him, and after watching the whole show he's not even one of my favorite characters, but I started to watch the show on Season 3 and I fell in love with Angel/Buffy.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: I'd say Wesley, but not because of "Buffy" (the show), more because of "Angel" (the show). Wesley was incredibly annoying in "Buffy", but I loved him in "Angel" and... uhm... I can't say more cause it'd be a spoiler, assuming you haven't seen "Angel".

Considering only "Buffy", I guess Anya. When she arrived in season 3 I never thought she'd stay and I didn't really want her to stay, and yet by season 5 when she had that moment in "The Body" trying to understand Joyce's death, she was one of my favorites!

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Spike. I said it. Please don't hate me! I like Spike pre-Buffy/Spike. I liked him as the bad guy and I loved him with Dru! (and I do like Dru), and I really like season 4 Spike, I thought he was hilarious. But when they decided to do the whole "Spike loves Buffy" thing I hated it. I like him... but I don't like him as much as others do.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: I like Dawn, but I don't LOVE her. With that said, I think my answer is Xander. Not everyone hates him, but he's my favorite character and I'm constantly surprised by the lack of Xander love!

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Amy. Loved Amy-rat, wanted her to come back, and when she did.... PLEASE MAKE HER A RAT AGAIN!!

6. The character I would shag anytime: Xander. I know he's not the "super hot" kind of guy but... I just love him!

7. The character I’d want to be like: I don't know... I guess Willow. Would be cool to do magic, and also she's very smart and all.

8. The character I’d slap: Riley. Season 6 Amy. Riley. Season 6 Willow. Spike. Riley again.

9. A pairing that I love: I really liked Cordy/Xander, but I also love Anya/Xander. Same goes for Oz/Willow and Tara/Willow. But if I have to pick just one pair, I have to go with Angel/Buffy. That's what first got me into the show... it's a nostalgic thing, haha.

10. A pairing that I despise: Spike/Buffy. Hated.

11. Favorite male character (add a quote or favorite line): Xander.

Quote from him: It's been a while since I watched the whole show again and there's just too many quotes from him that I love but I'm gonna go with one I never forget... "I’m just gonna go home, lie down, and listen to country music. The music of pain."

Quote about him: I can't go with any other then "His penis got diseases from a chumash tribe!".

12. Favorite female character (add a quote or favourite line): Faith.

Quote from her: "Five by Five", but that's too easy. There's so many quotes from her I love... I'm gonna go with "You're protecting vampires? Are you the bad slayer now? Am I the good slayer now?"

Quote about her:

Willow: Don't worry, we're sure to spot Faith first. She's like this cleavagey slutbomb walking around going, "Ooh, check me out, I'm wicked cool, I'm five by five".
Tara: "Five by five?" Five what by five what?
Willow: See, that's the thing. No one knows.

13. My five favorite characters: Xander, Faith, Anya, Glory, the Mayor.

14. My five least favorite characters: Riley, Amy, Ben, Adam, Jenny.

15. Which character I am most like: I guess Xander. He's geeky, silly, and the whole "I see more than anybody realizes because nobody's watching me" fits me, I think. I don't think I'm quite as funny as he is though.

16. My deep, dark fandom secret: I don't think i have one... Nothing I can think of right now at least.

I filled this out as my own separate blog post, but it was too many characters to leave as a comment... haha. :P As proof that I gave you credit, here's the link to it: http://wouldntreaditeither.blogspot.com/2011/02/once-more-with-feeling.html

Ah, Buffy. <3 I agree with most of your opinions, except Dawn really WAS annoying sometimes, and Druscilla is awesome.

Anyway, I filled out the survey when you first linked it a few days back...it's not my best writing (I sound so shallow. xD), but here's the link if you ever care to read it. http://kira902k.tumblr.com/post/3041354331/buffy-survey-spoilers

A bit late, I hope you're still reading the comments. I know you don't like Angel but you really should watch Angel the series. Spike does appear in a few episodes throughout the first 4 seasons, and is a main character for season 5. And even its just for completest reasons you should definitely watch them.

1. The first character I fell in love with: Faith, she represented the perfect woman to a teenage boy like myself.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Wesley (though admittedly more Angel than Buffy)

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Glory, found her really annoying and kinda boring.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Kennedy. I think everyone hates her for being the next girl after Tara, more than for just being Kennedy. I never had a problem with her and found her quite hot.

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: I quite liked Riley when he was just the next potential boyfriend in season 4. But as soon as he and Buffy got together, particularly in season 5, he just got so annoying.

6. The character I would shag anytime: Faith or Cordelia.

7. The character I’d want to be like: Giles, not a huge amount of male role models on the show, but Giles represents everything i'd want to be in an adult.

8. The character I’d slap: All of them on more than one occasion.

9. A pairing that I love: Angel and Buffy, and non romantically Faith and The Mayor.

10. A pairing that I despise: I think its hillarious that someone who loves Spike would hate Drusilla. So obvious :). Anyways gotta be Riley and Buffy.

11. Favorite male character (add a quote or favorite line): Giles.

Not a quote, but just every roll of the eyes and removal of glasses in mild disgust at the teenage ways of the scoobies.

12. Favorite female character (add a quote or favourite line): Probably Faith.

Can't remember any specific quotes its been years since I watched them.

13. My five favorite characters: Giles, Angel, Faith, The Mayor, Oz.

14. My five least favorite characters: Warren, Riley, Amy, Glory, Caleb.

15. Which character I am most like: Xander or Jonathan lol.

16. My deep, dark fandom secret: I haven't watched Seasons 5-7 since they aired.

1. The first character I fell in love with: Has to be Willow. She is adorable, shy, nerdy and not afraid to be who she is. I loved everything about her, especially her decent into dark magic and her recovery. It just made me love her even more.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Anya. I don't think anyone can say they loved Anya when she first arrived but she surprisingly ended up being one of the most interesting and hilarious characters.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: It's a hard one but I'd have to say Spike. I don't hate him by any means but he doesn't interest me as much as he seems to everyone else. He improved during season 6 and 7 but I couldn't stomach him in his earlier episodes.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: I'm going to be boring and say Dawn because I can't think of anyone else. I never got the hatred some people have for Dawn. She was never one of my favourites but I think she brought a much needed aspect to Buffy's life.

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer:

6. The character I would shag anytime: I'm going to be horribly usual too and say Spike. Even though I wasn't too fond of his character, who wouldn't go there? And also Faith....

7. The character I’d want to be like: I'm going to be cliche and say Buffy. Not because of her powers but because of the ways she carries herself. She's so confident and witty and is not afraid of the world.

8. The character I’d slap: Amy, when she messes with Willow. grrrrrr

9. A pairing that I love: Strangely I have always loved Xander and Willow. I really wish they had actually gone somewhere. Other than that I'd have to say Willow/Tara but only during season 5 and 6 when the awkwardness has settled. I also enjoyed Willow/Oz and of Xander/Anya.

10. A pairing that I despise: I couldn't stand Willow and Kennedy. I thought it was ridiculously rushed and felt like it happened only to serve the purpose of making at least one of the characters end up with someone. There was really no need for it.

11. Favorite male character (add a quote or favorite line): Xander

Quote from him: "What do you think happened? Another demon woman was attracted to me. I'm going gay! I've decided I'm turning gay. Willow, gay me up. Come on, let's gay"

12. Favorite female character (add a quote or favourite line): Willow

Quote from her: ''It's really nice that you guys missed me. Say, you all didn't happen to do a bunch of drugs, did ya.''

13. My five favorite characters: Willow, Anya, Xander, Tara and Oz.

14. My five least favorite characters: Rack?, Warren, Riley, Druscilla and Amy

15. Which character I am most like: It's a hard one but I think I'd have to go with Willow. I can relate to so many aspects of her personality.

16. My deep, dark fandom secret: I suppose it's that I didn't start watching until the end of 2009. I also started with 'The Body' because it randomly came on TV late one night. What an episode to start on! haha

I'm adding one, character I wanted to love but was just scared out of: the first slayer.

1. The first character I fell in love with: Hard to say. I think Xander. So endearing and sweet.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Darla. Her redemption in Angel was pretty cool. Also, Dru. She's crazy, and I know you think she's annoying, but I liked her. I also agree with you on Anya. Her character development, like you said, was cool.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Tara...

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Probably Dru and Dawn.

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Riley. I was rooting for him, but that whole thing just got dumb.

6. The character I would shag anytime: Spike. Spike. Spike.

7. The character I’d want to be like: Faith

8. The character I’d slap: Harmony. Oh my gosh. Please.

9. A pairing that I love: Buffy and Spike, and Xander and Anya (also pre-leaving-her-at-the-altar thing)

10. A pairing that I despise: Jen and Dawson...oh wait...

11. Favorite male character (add a quote or favorite line): Spike. Too lazy to look any lines up.

12. Favorite female character (add a quote or favourite line): Buffy.
Again too lazy. But loved her lines. It's been a long time since I've seen the show.

13. My five favorite characters: Buffy, Spike, Anya, Xander and Willow ... Giles and Joyce Summers

14. My five least favorite characters: Warren, Jonathan, Andrew, Tara, not sure what else.

15. Which character I am most like: Dawn...even though I'd like to be Buffy...

That seems like a very Dawn thing to say.

16. My deep, dark fandom secret: I once made a Buffy collage for a guy in my high school who also liked the show...(it was actually airing at the time)...we would spend way too much time talking Buffy talk

1. The first character I fell in love with: Xander.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: That's hard, but I'll have to go with Spike. I really fell in love with him after getting into it again. I also used to hate Oz but fell in love with him as time went on.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Buffy. I don't hate her, but Buffy has gotten on my nerves at times, and she is not my favourite character. *doges rotten fruit*

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Ethan Rayne (well I'm not sure if he's hated, but I doubt many remember him).

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Willow. She just gotten really annoying after high school ended.

6. The character I would shag anytime: Xander (but of course I wouldn't turn Spike down either).

7. The character I’d want to be like: A later cordelia. Confident, beautify, but still a bad ass.

8. The character I’d slap: Harmony. I hate her.

9. A pairing that I love: Oz/Willow.

10. A pairing that I despise: Giles/Ophelia (it never added to anything, and I despise her for not being able to handle it and leaving Giles).

11. Favorite male character (add a quote or favorite line): Xander

"I am the bug man co co cachu!
12. Favorite female character (add a quote or favourite line):This ones a little harder, but probably Anya. Plus her quote at the end of the body is brilliant!

"But I don't understand! I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean I knew her and then she's , and then there's just a body and I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead anymore. It's stupid. It's mortal and stupid. And Xander's crying and not talking and I was having fruit punch and I thought well Joyce will never have anymore fruit punch ever, and she'll never have eggs or yawn or brush her hair, not ever and no one will explain to me why!"

13. My five favorite characters: Xander, Spike, Giles, Oz, Anya

14. My five least favorite characters: Drusiclla, Shneider, Harmony, Darla

15. Which character I am most like: It used to be Willow, but now I'd have to say a girl Xander.

16. My deep, dark fandom secret: I once went as Willow for halloween- only she had been bitten by a vampire, shrunk, cut and died her hair, and was being Sailor Moon for halloween. (My favourite costume EVA!)

Honestly, I liked Riley a lot. People really don't give him enough credit. He was a little boring, but he was being compared to Angel and Spike (and no one in the world is more interesting than Spike). Realistically him and Buffy made the best couple. It wasn't as passionate as Buffy and Angel or as intense as Buffy and Spike but in real life, no relationship is. He was a sweet, small-town boy from Iowa. He was good to Buffy. He cared about her a lot. He would have made a good husband who would have loved her and helped her raise a family. But since this is Buffy, she probably wouldn't have ever gotten married or have kids. And the writers needed a relationship with a bit more fire to make the show more interesting. His character was good, just not fast-paced enough for the show, so I completely understand why Riley left the show. (And don't get me wrong- I was a HUGE Spike/Buffy fan. But no romances are like that in real life.)

Also, I love Angel. (It takes a lot for me not to like a character.) But not for the whole Buffy relationship thing. His character completely embodied the theme of atonement and redemption. His life was a waste as a person, an even bigger waste as a soulless vampire, but he stops at nothing to try to redeem himself. The one thing he wanted more than Buffy was that. He wasn't in it for the glory, but he stopped at nothing to achieve it.

Except Dawn, I never liked her. I am the youngest in my family, and I can honestly say that I was never that annoying to my brothers when I was 14.

1. The first character I fell in love with: Willow.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Drusilla. I never disliked her, but after rewatching the series for the first time in YEARS, I totally fell in love with her.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: I can't really think of anyone.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: I love Dawn because I can relate to her.

5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Buffy. before I became a big fan of Faith, I liked her just fine. but after putting Faith through the things she did (I could make a list) and then blaming Faith for everything? pisses me off. I still like her but that just took away a lot of respect for her.

6. The character I would shag anytime: Faith. Eliza Dushku is a freaking goddess, and Faith is so promiscuous, I'd be able to call her up anytime to f*ck. :D

7. The character I’d want to be like: a cross between Faith and Drusilla, because I love her innocent-crazy.

8. The character I’d slap: Buffy because of the thing with Faith.

9. A pairing that I love: as much as I've been hating on Buffy for handling Faith badly, they had SO MUCH sexual tension. they needed to get together, forreal. and Buffy needed to step up and apologize for her BS.

10. A pairing that I despise: none, really.

11. Favorite male character (add a quote or favorite line): Angel/Angelus.

"Anyone else notice a battle with your alter ego going on here?!"

12. Favorite female character (add a quote or favourite line): obvious by now. starts with an F. ;]

"Thank god we're hot chicks with superpowers."

13. My five favorite characters: Faith, Drusilla, Anya, Angel and Spike.

14. My five least favorite characters: umm. Amy, Warren, Riley, Parker, Ben.

15. Which character I am most like: I'm not really sure. I think I'm a mix of Tara, Spike, Faith, Kennedy, Dawn and a *little* bit of Rona, channeling the gangsta energy haha :P

16. My deep, dark fandom secret: didn't start watching until the middle of season six was airing. however, I was only ten, so I get a pass for that one, yeah? :P
